What Are The Different Flooring Options For A Dog Kennel

Building a kennel for your dog outside your home, like in a compound, is a very wise choice. Kennels give your dogs their own space and comfort. Moreover, you do not have to collect dirt or dog poop from various different places in your house. However, there are certain things that need to be kept in mind before you go ahead and make or buy a kennel for your dog. The most important of these things are the flooring options that you may consider for the dog’s kennel. There are a lot of things that are considered to be important in a dog kennel. But, flooring is of utmost importance as a dog lies, sits or stands on the flooring. Moreover, it will even be sleeping on the flooring and therefore, special care needs to be given to the flooring type which you want to use for your dog kennel.

These days, there are a lot of different options that you can choose from. Moreover, flooring for a dog pen or kennel can be easily bought from any pet store if you are buying a kennel. However, you can play with ideas and different materials if you are building a kennel on your own. In this article, we will discuss different types of flooring that you can use in a dog kennel, which will keep your dog happy as well as comfortable.

Types of Flooring for A Dog Kennel

1) Grass - Grass from your lawn can be a very good option to choose for the kennel flooring. But, this will only work fine if you do not have a digger. You should remember that grass gets wet or flooded when it rains. Therefore, a platform should also be made where your dog can lie and stay dry when it is raining. Grass is also avoided by some because of the problems caused by fleas.

2) Dirt - This is the cheapest option for flooring in a dog kennel. You can simply use the dirt from your lawn or backyard. However, just like grass, dirt also creates the same problem when it rains. Moreover, dirt becomes a puddle of mud when it rains and your dog will probably get very dirty. Just like grass, a platform should be made in case you are going for dirt flooring.

3) Concrete - If you are willing to spend a few more bucks, concrete will be a good choice. It will be easy to wash and will not get dirty easily. Remember to use a wooden border and fill the rest of the area with concrete. You can even call a professional company to pour a slab and you can just build the kennel around the slab.

4) Rubber mats - This is the best flooring option for a dog pen or kennel. Rubber mat flooring can be cleaned very easily. They are also soft and comfortable for your dog. However, this flooring should not be used for dogs who have a tendency of chewing things. This type of flooring is most suited for small dogs.
