Filed under: Dog Health, Dog Behavior

One kind infection that can be easily transmittable to dogs is rabies when certain risk factors are involved. A lot of people know the risk of rabies but how will one know if their dog is at risk and how it can be prevented? The daunting fact about rabies is that when a dog has been infected there is no treatment for it and they will now face fatality.

Rabies is not a rare type of infection and it has been there early on. It can infect any mammal including humans that is why the need to prevent it should be done. Rabies affects the brain because it can make the normal behavior of a mammal abnormal and make it spread all through the body of the infected one.

Dogs that have been infected will not be as friendly as he is and can turn into a wolf within a blink of an eye. He can attack anyone, bite and many others when he is infected by rabies. This is the shocking truth that might happen to a dog once he is infected by it.

Rabies is usually passed on from one dog to another or from dog to humans through saliva it can be by biting or licking the other party. Luckily, there is an anti-rabies vaccine that can now be given to dogs to prevent them from this deadly infection. In a lot of countries, their dogs are being given this type of vaccine to make sure that they will be safe. Without this vaccine this infection will be harder to control. Dogs that are on their 12th week of age should be given an anti-rabies vaccine to make sure that they will be free from it and it should be done on a yearly basis. Owners are held responsible for their pet dog that is why you need to make sure that your dog has the proper vaccine he needs to live happy all the days of his life. This is not just beneficial to him but to you too because you will all be at peace in the household since you know that your dog is free from infection.

You should keep in mind that when someone in the family or in the community was bitten by rabies affected dog, they need to be incubated for about 3 weeks to make sure that there will be no sign of rabies. If within 3 weeks time there will be a fever, bad head aches and low energy to go through the day, you need to take him to a doctor and the doctor needs to assess his health.

You need to take care of your dog very well to make sure that they will not be infected by rabies because even if they were vaccinated, they can still be at risk. You need to do these things to make sure that your dog is healthy and that all of you in the family are safe too since you are living with your dog.Article written by Karen Johnston of ohmydogsupplies.com, where you can find a incredible selection of portable dog gates online.
