All the Signs for an Overheated Dog
Panting - This a dog will do when it is overheated. Through this action the dog cools itself. Dogs do not have sweat glands except for the pad of the feet. So to cool themselves they breathe and pant. If the dog is panting too much though this means they are way too hot and should be cooled down immediately. Get it in from out of the heat and give it some cool water to drink.
Labored Breathing - A dog will have a harder time breathing when too hot. As the dog cools off this should pass. If it does not a phone call or trip to the vet might be warranted.
Lethargy - If a dog is so hot it is lethargic try to get it cooled down. This can be a dangerous sign if left unheeded. Just like humans dogs can face health problems when the heat gets too much for them.
Nausea and Vomiting - With extreme overheating the dog could be nauseas and even vomit. This could even lead to dehydration. The dog can lose so much fluid through this happening.
Dehydration - When this occurs because of the dog being overheated it could make it to stop urinating. This is not good for the bladder or kidneys.
Health Problems
Health problems like heat stroke can happen when a dog gets too hot. Strokes can be disabling for dogs like in humans. They can become partially paralyzed or even die from these strokes.
Heat can also put a strain on a dog’s heart. It will have to pump blood harder to oxygenate the blood. This could lead to a heart attack. So protect your dog from this happening.
Another Danger with Summer Heat
The pavement can become hot in the summer heat. So hot in fact, that it could burn your dog’s paws. It is a good idea not to walk the pooch on the pavement in the heat of the day. If you have snow boots for the dog you could let it wear them if you must walk on hot pavement.
You can see how dangerous the heat is to your dog by the information provided above. Enjoy the summer weather with your dog just do it wisely. Do not overdo, this is important you and your dog both. Protect the health of your dog and it will be with you for many years to come.Content provided by Gary Stevens of ohmydogsupplies.com, check out our awesome collection of dog leashes online.
