Golden Retriever Dog Bed

When you are buying a golden retriever dog bed there is one obvious consideration that has to be made… the size!
There is a basic fact of life, even if your dog is only a puppy when you first bring him home, he is going to grow to be a large dog. This means that you will probably not get away with purchasing only one golden retriever dog bed. You will be amazed at how quickly your pet will outgrow his bed and it will need replacing. The style of bed will almost certainly change as your dog matures. As a puppy he made need a bed which can withstand some chewing. As a large dog, especially an older dog, he may well need some extra padding in the bed to make is more comfortable for his older muscles and bones.
The way that your dog sleeps must also be taken into account. Some dogs prefer to be curled up in a cosy position whereas some prefer to sprawl with their legs stretched out. Unfortunately, you may well be buying your first golden retriever dog bed at the same time as you get the dog. This means that you will have no time to get to know the preferred sleeping position and habits of your new pet. If this is the case, it is best to buy a fairly cheap, unstructured bed until you get to know him better.
Golden retrievers are good sleepers. If they are getting the amount of exercise that is needed to keep them fit and healthy, they will also be needing a good amount of sleep and rest. For this reason, it is important to have a golden retriever dog bed which offers warmth, particularly away from any draughts. A bed with sides is always a good option as this can shelter your dog from any chills and it is possible to buy large, rigid beds which can then be padded to a suitable degree according to your dogs needs. These beds can be cleaned easily as the bedding will be removable and the rigid plastic can be cleaned using a specialist, dog friendly product. They are constructed so that your pet is sheltered from draughts and the base that he will be sleeping on is raised from the floor slightly for additional warmth. The cushions that you add can then be co-ordinated with your current soft furnishings.
A golden retriever dog bed such as the one described above, may only need to be changed once or twice during his growing years. As a small puppy he will not want to be in a huge bed and will need something more cosy, but after that it is possible to let him have a bed that has a little growing space. This extra space can always be filled with cushions around the sides to make it more comforting until such time as the additional space is needed.
Always remember that what you are buying is a golden retriever dog bed and not a piece of fashionable furniture for yourself. Consider your pet first and foremost in your decisions regarding their bed and not the aesthetics and your interior design plans.
