Learn All You Want to Know About the Toy Chihuahua
By Sandra Dean

There are many people in the world who love the toy Chihuahua not only for its diminutive size but also for their very sweet temperament. This dog is the smallest of all the dog breeds known to man and also the oldest. Its origins can be traced to a place in Mexico after which it is named. The Aztec bred this dog for their royalty in ancient times. However, at that time the Chihuahua was slightly larger than what it is today.

By description, everything about this dog is cute and endearing. It has a tiny apple shaped head, eyes that seem too large for their head and sharp, pointed upright ears. Its eyes are slightly bulging and the muzzle is tiny and sharp. Do not be taken in by its looks though -the toy Chihuahua might look extremely fragile, but this dog is muscular and quite strong for its size.

The toy Chihuahua comes with a custom made temperament and character. Though generally speaking these dogs are friendly, extrovert and cuddly - there are plenty of variation to their temperament, mostly owing to incorrect breeding practices. One trait that stands out about this breed is that they make exceptional guard dogs in spite of their size.

The toy Chihuahua loves attention and thrives on it. They are very territorial and hate to share anything their ‘own’ including their owners. This is why these dogs and young children do not mix well. They can get very aggressive if anyone else hogs the limelight and in their excitement they can even bite.

There is another reason why you should keep children away from this breed. This dog looks very small and is often taken for a toy by young kids who in their wish to cuddle and pet it might squeeze a little too hard or sit or stamp on it, hurting or even killing it.

When you choose a toy Chihuahua as your pet you get a lot more than that. You get endless entertainment, as these dogs are extremely comical in their behavior; you get a faithful companion who will never leave your side as long as they live. You get an excellent guard dog that will keep you alerted about any possible intrusion in your home. And lastly you get an animal that will love you unconditionally and demand nothing less than that from you.

You need to be careful not to spoil these dogs as they behave just like small children in their demand for attention and your love. They love luxuries and your company; therefore you will find them more often sleeping in your bed than in theirs. Training needs to be imparted very early, as these dogs can be very strong-headed when they grow into adults. This is one of the reasons why most owners find it extremely difficult to housebreak the toy Chihuahua.

As a dog lover the Sandra Dean has spent time studying the history of dog breeds. The Chihuahua is a diverse breed suitable for certain types of households. As a bold breed, the Chihuahua is highly protective and loyal of their owners. Knowing Chihuahua information can help you determine if it is a breed right for you.

How to End Whining Puppy Behavior
By Anthony Pace

Are you fed up with your whining puppy and don’t know what to do to change the pup’s behavior? Puppy’s whine for a reason and you need to determine why your puppy is whining and what you can do to change his behavior. A little dog history may help you understand some of the pack communication methods that are inbred into a puppy’s DNA.

Whines or whimpers are considered a form of short range communication when compared to barks, in the dog world. Dogs often whine when they first greet each other or when they are showing some form of submissiveness. They also whine when they are frustrated or in pain, as a means to get attention, and sometimes in defense.

The whining puppy in a household environment usually fits the model of whining because they are frustrated or in pain, as a means to get attention. Because puppies are naturally social creatures your first encounter of puppy whining most likely will occur when the puppy is left alone in a room for the first time. He may be scared and think that he is being abandoned by the "pack", which is represented by you, the owner.

To curb the whining puppy of his behavior you need to first make sure all his basic needs are met including, feeding, pottying, etc. Once the basic needs are met then you must teach your puppy to accept isolation and privacy. Begin to accustom your pup by leaving him in a room by himself, even if you are at home. This will mirror being left alone and help prevent separation anxiety and the incessant whining that accompanies it.

If the puppy begins to whine do not give in and go try to comfort your puppy because this will only reward him for whining. Also, it is perfectly appropriate to reprimand unnecessary whining. After a period of time your puppy will begin to accept that being alone sometimes is part of his new life in your home and he will stop whining on his own accord when left alone. This will be a happy day for you because you love your puppy and it is hard to hear the constant whining without wanting to step in to comfort the little one.

There are many pets out there that are social and enjoy being around pets such as themselves. Dogs are one of the many social animals that people own as pets. Socialization for any animal can be an important part of their every day activities. You should allow your dog to socialize with other dogs to keep them happy and healthy. There are many different ways that you can give your dog an opportunity to socialize with other dogs in your opportunity.

One option that you can do for your dog is to send your dog to dog park. Dog parks can be a great way for both dogs and owners to socialize with each other in a relaxed environment. Dog parks can either be in a public or a private area depending on who is the owner of the land where the dog park is located. Public dog parks are usually owned by someone in the community and are opened up to the public for anyone’s use. Public dog parks are usually owner by someone who is part of the community, but chooses to use it as a private dog club. For private clubs, you are usually required to become a member as well as pay yearly dues to the club. Whether the park is private or public, they provide a large area for the dogs to run around and play with each other.

Socialization is an important process for every dog to go through in the growing process. If you provide opportunities for your dog to socialize with other dogs, it will help to increase your dog’s life span as well as ensuring that your dog will not be aggressive toward other dogs. By providing supervised time for your dog to play with other dogs, it will make the dog less likely to be defensive with other dogs because you are around and friendly with the other pets.

Another option for socialization or your pet is to take your pet to a training class with other dogs present. Your dog will sense your relaxation around the other dogs which will ease the tension the dog may be feeling. This can also be an opportunity to help your dog become acclimated with other people being around you and your family.
