Little summary of most popular dog breeds.

  • Extra small: Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Shih Tzu
  • Small: Boston Terrier, Jack Russell, Yorkie, Maltese
  • Medium: Cairn Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, Llasa Apso, Dachshund
  • Large: Basset Hound, Bulldog, Welsh Corgi, Shar-Pei
  • XLarge: Chow, Collie, Dalmation
  • XXLarge: German Shepherd, Greyhound, Golden/Labrador Retriever

For extra small and small dogs, I recommend you to buy a plastic transport dog crate. You can read this article to see the benefits of wooden, plastic and metallic transport dog crates.

Why to choose plastic crates for small dogs ? Because they’re not heavy chewers, they can’t chew it easily, they are easy to transport. Which means they are light, even when your dog is in there. And most of them are designed in that way, so they can be fasten by the car’s seatbelt, so you can easily put the crate on your backseat.

For medium sized dogs, I would recommend you to choose a combination of metallic and plastic crate. Because, they’re also not so heavy, though it can give safety for the dog. What I mean with plastic and metallic combination, that is the crate is made from plastic, though with metallic windows and doors. They’re great for medium sized dogs, and plastic crates don’t have sharp edges, which decreases the possibility for your dog to injure herself.

If you have a big dog, then I suggest you to take a strong plastic crate in combination with metal, or maybe even wooden one. Bigger dogs are mostly the biggest chewers, they can chew pure plastic crate. Wooden crates are good, dogs can’t chew it, though they are heavier, so it’s a bit harder to transport it. But the safety that gives wooden crates for big dogs is well worth it. And dogs like wooden crates with a nice and soft dog’s bed or a dog’s rug.

I hope this will help you to make your right decision. And remember, if you have a dog, you have to threat her, like it’s your health, and your safety.
